Today pause and remember Lieutenant Edward Worrell of the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department who paid the ultimate price for our communities on February 3, 1977.

Lieutenant Worrell and Officer Butch Clark were dispatched to a burglary in progress call at what was then the old Howard’s Department Store on North Stateline Avenue. As they arrived and got out of their unit, they were ambushed by a 16-year-old juvenile with a rifle who was standing watch in the parking lot while his two accomplices robbed the store. Both officers were struck by gunfire and Lieutenant Worrell was fatally wounded. All three juvenile suspects were located and arrested
