TISD Announces Staffing Changes

Several new names will be in charge at several locations within the district with the upcoming new school year.

During their May 25, 2022 regular meeting, the Texarkana ISD Board of Trustees named Kay Stickels as Director of Special Populations. She currently serves as a Math Consultant with The Region 8 Education Service Center.

Stickels has served educators from the 46 districts within Region 8 for 21 years as a consultant and 30 years in education starting as a classroom teacher. The scope of her work has included inclusive educational practices, adaptive instructional activities, management of the classroom environment, and assisting districts to develop instructional systems that resulted in narrowing the academic gap between all learners. 

Stickels brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Texarkana ISD as a leader in the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. She has been instrumental in providing state-wide staff development for all teachers in differentiation, scaffolds, and instructional accommodations. She is also a certified presenter for Math for ALL, a Texas Education Agency-developed academy for teachers working with students served in special programs.

TISD Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker said, “Mrs. Stickels is well known to educators in TISD and across Northeast Texas as an outstanding provider of teacher and administrator staff development focused on closing opportunity gaps and otherwise meeting the needs of all students. We are also very excited that she is joining our leadership team.”

Stickels holds a bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Texas A&M-Commerce.

Stickels replaces Shawn Davis, who will transition to Principal of Texas Middle School. She will officially begin on July 1, 2022.

Also the Board named a new Principal at the of Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center:

The Texarkana ISD Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Tabitha Dudley as the new Principal of Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center. She currently serves as Principal of Mading Dual Language Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District.

Dudley returns to Texarkana ISD with more than 15 years in education, having served as a teacher, campus principal and district leader. Dudley has extensive experience in developing highly effective teachers and leaders and fostering a positive school climate and culture. The appointment also marks a return to Dudley’s roots, as she was raised in Texarkana and graduated from Texas High School. 

TISD Superindent Dr. Doug Brubaker said, “It is exciting to welcome Dr. Dudley back to our district and community. She brings a strong professional background and a commitment to excellence that makes her a great fit for the principal position at Paul Laurence Dunbar Early Education Center. She and her team will work together to continue to meet the needs of Dunbar students – our youngest Tiger cubs – very effectively.”

As a Teacher Development Specialist in the Houston Independent School District, Dudley provided job-embedded professional development and supported various professional learning communities (PLCs) to impact student growth and build teacher capacity. During her time in HISD, she also served as an assistant principal at Franklin Elementary School and as the principal of  Fondren Elementary. 

Dudley holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas, a master’s degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin, and a doctorate in executive leadership from Houston Baptist University.

Dudley replaces Lakesha Taylor, who will transition to Director of CTE & STEM Education. She will officially begin with TISD on July 1, 2022.
