The Texas High Tigers have begun their 2020 baseball season, and another great season is expected.

The Tigers led by Head Coach John McClure, are playing in the North DeSoto Tournament this weekend, followed by an away game Tuesday in Longview, then hosting  the Border Battle Tournament starting Thursday.

The Tigers have some shoes to fill, as they have four returning starters from the 2019 team. They do have a good mix of players on this years team. Seven Seniors, nine juniors, and four sophomores make up the roster.

Around the infield, some of the names to look for include: Rian Cellers, Michael Sikorski, Trey Lavender, Zane Dodson, Ben Depriest, and Nate Mennie.

Patrolling the outfield should be Conner Allen, Luke Smith, Aaron Prince, and John Adams.

Behind the plate, Jackson Halter, and Luke Smith will be spending time at catcher.

The Tiger seem to have a lot of options on the mound. Pitchers include: Rian Cellers, Michael Sikorski, Luke Smith, Zane Dodson, Nathan Steele, Robert Cheney, and Colin Shelley.

Coach McClure says besides his Tigers, “Mt. Pleasant, Sulphur Springs, Lindale, and Royse City will be some of the teams in the district vying for playoff positions.”

As we mentioned, the Tigers are filling some holes left by graduation last year. Coach McClure has this to say about the newcomers. ” We will be inexperienced starting out. As we move on into the season, I look for us to continue to get better with every outing.”

Coach McClure and his staff, year in, and year out, do a great job with the student athletes at Texas High.
