Believe it or not there are some simple things you can do to help keep your property and your valuables from hopefully being the target of criminals.
Here is a Press Release from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department:
Property crimes are one of our most reported type of crimes in society. These type of crimes can be prevented often by not making items so easily accessible. Lock the doors to your home, vehicles, and storage buildings.
Don’t leave personal items such as a wallet, purse, cell phone, firearms, or other valuables in your vehicle. Even if you are going inside a business or residence for a few minutes, take your items and lock the door. Park your vehicle in a well lighted area and in view of audio/video cameras. Don’t leave your vehicle running at a gas station or fuel pump while you enter a store.Be aware of people walking in your neighborhood late at night or early morning hours, if you see something that doesn’t look right to you, call 911. See something say something.
Be alert at all times, shopping, running errands, entering or exiting a business to a parking lot, getting out of your vehicle at home. Look around and see who is close by or walking in your direction. Have a plan on what you will do if someone does approach you, don’t be looking down at your cell phone while walking in a parking lot or public space.
