I have one dog. A small inside dog. But some of my neighbors have cats. Lots of cats. I have started to feed some of the ones that come into my yard. Why? Well, I’ve always heard that having cats out in the country is good to keep down snakes and rodents. So I figured I’d rather have a few cats than a few snakes and rodents. Besides, my dog looks forward to going out to walk and play with his favorite kitten friends.
Well, I started feeding like 3 cute cats. But now it seems the word has gotten out about the dumb human giving away free food. So now I see strange cats from time to time who chase off my usual neighbor cats.
So my question is am I being smart or dumb to encourage these cats to come around my house? I mean do cats really keep the snakes away?
Or is that just a rumor started by a bunch of cats to get humans to let them hang around and feed them? What has been your experience with outside cats? Good or Bad. And how do I keep the cats from leaving little footprints all over my vehicles?
