Preparation is The Key To Keeping Warm and Safe

A cold arctic vortex is about to swoosh in and could cause many problems for the “4 P’s.” The “Four P’s are People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes.” We had Dustin and Jerry with Reliance Mechanical, Inc as our guests to ensure we understand how to protect the pipes in our homes and businesses.

Before the cold weather descends upon us, find out where the main water valve in your home and business is. It is crucial to stop the water from pouring into your house if your pipes break, which will cause even more damage.

Prevent Water Pipe Freezing

1- Remove any water house attached to the outside spigot

2- Insolate the exterior faucet. Many varieties of insolating devices are available at home improvement stores, but a towel wrapped around the valve and some duct tape will offer much-needed protection.

3- Open the cupboard doors that have water pipes in exterior walls inside the house.

4- Turn your faucets on just enough to ensure the water is flowing, approximately 8 – 10 drops per minute. It is essential to have both the hot and cold water moving through the pipes to avoid disastrous burst pipes.

5- If you have a well and the “well house” isn’t insulated correctly, have a heat light turned on to ensure your well doesn’t freeze.

If you have any concerns or questions, today and tomorrow are the best days to call Reliance Mechanical Contractors, Inc. at (903) 223-0946.
