While shopping at an area Academy Sports, this unidentified couple evaded employees with unpurchased items, including 2,000 rounds of ammunition and other worth of ammunition and clothing. Saturday night a week ago, they went to Academy Sports to do a little shopping. They picked out two pairs of Nike shoes, Nike clothes, and several cans/boxes of ammunition. After hiding the stuff inside and under an empty baby carrier (that they unloaded from the truck of their car just before coming in), they went to the register to check out. They paid for a Sprite and candy bar – without mentioning the $2,900 of merchandise that they’d hidden in their shopping cart.Employees stopped them when they set off the alarm at the exit. After several seconds of trying to convince the employees that they’d actually paid for everything in their buggy, the woman gathered up some of the items and ran out the door. The man then grabbed the baby carrier that (while still unknown to the employees) is actually filled with 2,000 rounds of 5.56 ammo and follows her out the door. It was so heavy that he almost lost his balance when he tried to pick it up out of the buggy. In their haste to get out of there, they left eight other boxes of ammo in the buggy with the employees.
