In an awards ceremony this afternoon, Chief Kevin Schutte recognized two officers for their extraordinary actions.
Detective Thomas Shaddix was named as both the Officer of the Quarter and Officer of the Year for 2023 for his efforts in solving a murder case from 2018. Thomas was looking into cold cases in his spare time when he discovered evidence that tied the suspect directly to the murder. The suspect was later arrested and charged in the case.

Officer Casey Schmidt was awarded his second Lifesaving Award. He was recently dispatched to a call of an unconscious man at Academy Sports in early September. When Casey – who is also an EMT – got there, he immediately recognized that the man was having a heart attack and started CPR. As other first responders arrived at the scene, he told gave them the information that they needed to continue his treatment and get him safely to the hospital.
