Officers Dewey Fleming and Christopher Flores noticed several vehicles stopped in a parking lot on N. Stateline Avenue at College Drive about 4:00 on Sunday morning. As they pulled through the parking lot themselves, they recognized Collins sitting in one of the cars and knew that he had several warrants for his arrest. As Officer Fleming got out and started walking toward the car, Collins jumped out and immediately took off running. He managed to get to W. 32nd and Walnut Streets before Officer Fleming caught up with him. After he was handcuffed, Officer Fleming found a Glock 19 (which had previously been reported stolen in Wake Village) laying beside Collins and a plastic baggie that contained marijuana in his pants pocket.
Collins was transported initially to the hospital due to some apparent medical issues he was having, but he was later booked into the Bi-State Jail after being medically cleared. In addition to the four misdemeanor warrants that he had, he was also charged with Theft of a Firearm, Evading Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of Marijuana. His total bond is set at $41,631.
