This group of thieves took their athletic wear seriously. Thank you TTPD for extending the long arm of the law effectively.

We arrested four people from Shreveport about 8:00 last night after getting a call of a theft that had just occurred at Academy Sports. The witnesses told us that two women and a man ran out the door carrying armloads of clothes and left in a silver van with Louisiana license plates.

Because we’ve had similar thefts before with people from Louisiana driving here to steal merchandise from stores, the officers figured they’d probably take the quickest route back to Louisiana. Sure enough, they saw the van headed south on Jarvis Parkway doing 85 mph just minutes later. They stopped them and immediately saw that the van was loaded down with new clothes – including some with Academy price tags on them.

After confirming that three of them were the ones captured on surveillance video stealing the clothes at Academy, we arrested Ashanti Green (18 years old), Marcus Griffin (40 years old) and a 15-year-old girl for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Precious Davis (30 years old), who was also the van, had a felony theft warrant from Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and was arrested for that. Green initially lied about her name when the officers first talked to her and were also charged with Failure to Identify.
In addition to the $2,200 in Nike apparel that was taken from Academy, we also found stolen shirts, jackets, and dresses from two other Texarkana stores that totaled over $1,200.

The three adults were booked into the Bi-State Jail, where Griffin’s bond is set at $40,000 and Green’s is $43,000. Because of the out-of-state felony warrant, a bond has not been set for Davis as she is expected to be picked up by Louisiana authorities in the next couple of days. The juvenile was taken to JDC and later released to her parents.
