Bowie County 4-H Awards Scholarship Money

Bowie County 4-H recently recognized four of their graduating seniors with scholarships  totaling $5,500.

The 4-H Support Foundation has conducts fundraisers to raise funds for scholarships for the Bowie County 4-Her’s. The Foundation awards a $2,000 scholarship for a graduating senior(s) as well as a $1,000 scholarship for college freshmen.

This year’s recipients of the 4-H Support Foundation High School Scholarship is 8-year 4-H member Laura Fincher of Texarkana. She is a past Gold Star Award and I Dare You Leadership Award recipient. Laura has been very active in the Natural Resource project areas and has served as a teen leader. She plans to attend Texas A&M – Commerce where she will study Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.

The Bowie County 4-H Adult Advisory Board established a scholarship in memory of long-time leader, Maxcine Guffey. This year the Board awarded a $500 scholarship to four deserving 4-H members. Recipients are Laura Fincher, Austin Boswell of Maud, Shelby Boswell of Texarkana and Jaycee Littleton of Simms. Austin & Shelby have been active in the Beef Cattle, Shooting Sports and Horse projects for the past 10 years. Austin also serves as an Assistant 4-H Certified Archery coach and Shelby serves as an Assistant 4-H Certified Pistol and Rifle Coach. Austin plans to attend Texas Tech University where she plans to study Electrical Engineering and Law. Shelby plans to attend Mississippi State University to study Animal Science – Pre-Vet. Jaycee has been active in the Beef Cattle, Shooting Sports and Food & Nutrition projects for the past 9 years. She serves as a teen leader for the Livestock Project Club. She plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to study Pre-Pharmacy.

The 4-H Livestock Booster club dedicated a $500 scholarship to a beloved leader, Shelly
Hill. This year they awarded scholarships to three deserving young ladies. Austin Boswell,
Shelby Boswell and Jaycee Littleton.
